Van Gogh's Table

This is a cookbook with a story to it.  It is actually my sole souvenir of a wonderful evening dining at Casanova, in Carmel, CA. Dubbed "Carmel's Most Romantic Restaurant" and well known for its delicious Country French and Italian cuisine, Casanova also boasts a special attraction.  It houses the original table at which Vincent Van Gogh ate his meals while in residence at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers Sur-Oise, France.

This book was available at the restaurant.  Van Gogh's Table at the Auberge Ravoux by Alexandra Leaf and Fred Leeman chronicles Van Gogh's experiences at the Auberge Ravoux, during one of the most creative and prolific times in his life as a painter. It is also a stunning exploration of  the culinary traditions that inspired his world.  Recipes that were popular during Van Gogh's era are included, such as Chicken Breasts with Savoy Cabbage and Smoked Bacon, Pumpkin Soup, and Chocolate Mousse Sabayon.  The combination of historical background, beautiful color images of Van Gogh's paintings, artful photography and delectable recipes make this an excellent addition to the art and food lover's bookshelf.
