Golden Gate Park: Peace in the Mist

The sublime beauty of Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park is an oasis in the midst of bustling city life and one of San Francisco's treasured naturescapes.  The 12 acre man-made lake surrounds Strawberry Hill Island, which is named for the wild strawberries once grown there.  This still watered lake and the rich wooded area it encompasses reflects a quiet, serene side of the city that is often overlooked in travel guides.

The Stone Bridge traversing Stow Lake has a romantic quality, with its old-world cobblestones and classic Roman style.  This is a beautiful sight to behold as the fog rolls in and gently covers the bridge with a blanket of mist.  Below, the path onto and across the bridge beckons as I wander with camera in hand...

The aged trees and enchanting wooded landscape around the lake are rustic and wild.  Alive with every imaginable texture of wilderness, these trees look like cracks in a whitewashed sky.  It is so peaceful here...
