A Blue and White Table

A blue and white table with vintage lace, mixed garden flowers, and bird accents is simple to create for a spring luncheon or Mother's Day brunch.  To style a table like this one, use varied shapes and heights of blue and white decorative containers to hold flowers. Scatter them throughout with antique figurines or bird salt and pepper shakers like the ones shown above.  This creates an informal, eclectic look that evokes table settings of times past.

Using a white lace table cloth, or even just a yard or two of  lace fabric will provide a patterned background that can be layered with blue and white dishes, textured place mats,  printed napkins and vases of mixed flowers.  For this style, use many different prints and textures for interest but stay consistent with the blue and white color scheme to unify the table.

Chinese porcelain has always enchanted me with its crisp, classic style and exotic history.  These tea containers have sterling silver lids, which I've removed to use them as vases.  Small teacups or uniquely shaped porcelain pieces filled with flowers clipped from the garden like the dahlias and hawthorn blossoms shown above can be strewn across the table for a pop of color here and there.

As a final touch, I clipped a few feathered blue birds from the craft store onto the napkins of each place setting for a fun and lighthearted addition to the table.  These will be used as favors at the brunch!

Please visit my new Facebook page for more photos of the floral arrangements used in this table design.  Hope to see you there!
