Late Summer Flowers...

Cream and Pink Rose www.gildedbloom.com #roses #flowers

Our garden has transitioned now into a menagerie of bright pink, yellow and orange flowers as the California sun is hot in these late summer months.  Although we have fewer flowers in bloom now, the ones that last through the heat catch the eye with their bright happy hues.  I thought I'd share a few examples from our end-of-summer garden.

Early mornings and evenings are beautiful and are my favorite times to visit the garden.  We currently have several roses in bloom.  One of my favorites is pictured above.  It was a gift from a sweet neighbor and always has the most elegant variegated cream and pink blooms.

Lantana www.gildedbloom.com #summerflowers

Many pots of lantana are also blossoming on our patio.  This is a very hearty, heat tolerant plant and creates a lovely display of color.  It also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds!

Rose of Sharon- Hibiscus- www.gildedbloom.com #summerflowers

The Rose of Sharon trees that grow nearby also attract them throughout the summer months.  The blooms are very delicate but the plant itself is robust and comes back larger every year.

Orange Mums- www.gildedbloom.com #flowers #gardening

Mums are a staple in our patio garden and this year they are blooming early.  Soon I will cut them back so more flowers develop in the fall. These are always beautiful on the porch and patio accented with pumpkins and gourds near Halloween.

Crepe Myrtle Blossoms- www.gildedbloom.com #floweringtrees

Crepe Myrtle trees are blossoming all around now, adding color to the skyline and ours is in full bloom.

Mandevilla- www.gildedbloom.com #summerflowers

The front entry gardens are filled with pink and white cosmos and climbing mandevilla along with tea roses in shades of pink and orange.  Mandevilla, sometimes called Brazilian jasmine, grows here throughout the summer months and is lovely on fences or a trellis.

I hope you have enjoyed this brief tour of our summer garden.  I am busy working on new creative projects in the studio and will be taking a blog break through Sept 15th.  In the meantime, please follow me on Instagram. Facebook, or Twitter for updates.  I will see you in September!
