Simple Fresh Hydrangea Arrangments

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.  -Leonardo Da Vinci

Our hydrangeas are blooming in lovely pink and white this summer and are perfect for simple cut flower arrangements as they stay fresh and beautiful for nearly a week when kept in clean water.
Although these flowers can easily be worked into complex floral designs, I find that they are just as stunning on their own in a glass vase.  And sometimes it is fun to use what is in the garden instead of purchasing flowers at the market.

To design a simple but sophisticated hydrangea arrangement, use blooms that are all one color and cut them to fill a short cylindrical vase like the one shown above.  This style of arrangement is elegant on a dining table and is low enough to not distract the guests.  No one likes to talk with someone over dinner when they can't see past the flowers!

Another way to create a very simple design with hydrangeas is to place them in a tall vase and add one other accent flower in the same color.  In the arrangement below, our white hydrangeas are shown with nandina blossoms to add texture.  Combining showy blooms with rustic greenery or flowers creates a natural, informal style.
